Why Water in a Box?
The Box is made from planet friendly sustainable materials (97% from trees). The Box is 100% recyclable cardboard or pressed paper with water based ink (no solvents), no wax. The Carbon Footprint of the Box is only 24% of the comparable size plastic bottle (even including transport from Norway!!!) and if we end up in the landfill, our footprint is 1/30th of the bottle and we will actually bio-degrade over time.
Where is the Water From?
We bring in the best water in the world, from Norway.
How long has the Icebox been available?
The 5 liter has been available nationally since late 2007, and the small boxes were introduced in January of 2009.
Doesn't importing from Norway impact the environment?
Even with production and transport from Norway, our small boxes have a Carbon Footprint that is only 1/4 of the comparable plastic bottle produced in the USA (76% smaller Carbon Footprint - WOW). IN FACT, our small boxes have the smallest Carbon Footprint of any beverage packaging available on the shelf today!!!!!
Is the water alkaline or acidic?
Slightly alkaline, ph of 7.2
Does the box have any wax on the outside?
NO... The exterior has a standard aqueous coating... no wax whatsoever... The coating is by design to provide a further moisture barrier to insure the integrity of the package. Over 2/3 of all of these boxes are re-cycled in Europe, so they are definitely re-cyclable... And if the box ends up in the landfill, the aqueous coating, unlike its wax counterpart, allows for oxygen to reach the paper, so it can bio-degrade...
